Women often ask me, “What’s your secret to being 58 and looking as you do?” I tell them that it’s not just genetics. I haven’t had plastic surgery either. I never sat in the sun. I never smoked or used drugs. And, especially, I never feel hate and always forgive. To feel gratitude and see life as a wonder, in spite of its sorrows, also helps!
The truth is my Kind Mirror℠ keeps me looking the way I do.
Often when women look at themselves in the mirror, they’re looking through a judgmental one. They focus on their flaws. But my mirror is not judgmental.
When I look in the mirror, I concentrate on my face. I see a big smile. I believe that when people zoom in on you, they see your smile and your zest for life. They don’t pay attention to your wrinkles!
For me, my Kind Mirror℠ is everything, especially as I get older. It keeps me ageless. And when you are able to make peace with age, that’s when you can truly start to find gratitude and joy. Instead of trying so hard to be someone else, I believe a woman should give herself the right to step into herself and discover her magic. I think of May Sarton’s wisdom, “Wrinkles here and there seem unimportant compared to the gestalt of the whole person I have become in this past year.”
When it comes to my style I focus on having fun playing dress up. Kate Spade said it so well, “Dressing up starts at five and never ends.” My Kind Mirror℠ doesn’t judge me or look at my age or body shape. My focus is to have fun with the right attitude.
